Factory people. Same equipment line. Same training program.

SurfaceJet opened in 2003. The work started earlier. In 1992, Flow International acquired SafeWorks, the manufacturer of Spider Staging. That is how this group first came to UHP equipment and to the ST-17 air powered Spider basket — covering the Gulf Coast, north through Atlanta, east to Charlotte, and south through Florida.

In 1999 the same people were running Flow’s portable UHP equipment for surface preparation. The spread was upfitted for offshore use. The operator training program for offshore crews was written then. The parts consignment program started then.

In 2003 that offshore UHP spread became SurfaceJet. The training program continued under the SurfaceJet name. Since then SurfaceJet has certified over 2,200 people on UHP equipment, and about the same number on ST-17 air powered baskets.

Service technicians and managers were factory employees then. They are factory trained now. ST-17 repairs use factory original parts so the baskets stay in line with the manufacturer’s standards and with mandates on secondary braking and the overspeed escapement.

SurfaceJet has removed several million square feet of coating and continues that work as demand for robotic UHP and cleaner sites increases.

The qualification is the lineage.

SurfaceJet did not start as a rental catalog. It started as the people who already ran Spider Staging, portable UHP, offshore upfits, and operator training — then kept the iron and the program under the SurfaceJet name.

1992

SafeWorks and Spider Staging

Flow International acquired SafeWorks, the manufacturer of Spider Staging. That is when this group first worked UHP equipment and the ST-17 air powered Spider basket — Gulf Coast, north through Atlanta, east to Charlotte, and south through Florida.

1999

Flow portable UHP

The same people ran Flow’s portable UHP equipment for surface preparation. The spread was upfitted for offshore use. The offshore operator training program was written. Parts consignment started so crews were not waiting on hardware.

2003

SurfaceJet

That offshore UHP spread became SurfaceJet. The training program continued under this name. Technicians and managers were factory employees then and are factory trained now. That continuity is the qualification.

03Qualifications

What that history means on the job.

Factory-trained staff

All of us — service technicians and managers — were factory employees and factory trained. That is who inspects, services, load-tests, and pressure-tests the fleet.

Factory original ST-17 parts

We only use factory original parts in the ST-17s. That keeps the baskets compliant with the manufacturer’s standards and with government mandates on secondary braking and the overspeed escapement.

UHP certification

Since 2003 SurfaceJet has certified over 2,200 people on UHP equipment. 12- and 24-hour operator and technician courses still run from New Iberia. SurfaceJet is a Louisiana ITWP grant training provider.

ST-17 certification

About the same number — over 2,200 — have been certified on ST-17 air powered baskets. Operator training certification is available with rental, repair, and sale.

Offshore-upfitted UHP

The portable UHP spread was upfitted for offshore use in 1999, with parts consignment so crews are not waiting on hardware. That program continued when the spread became SurfaceJet.

Production record

We have successfully removed several million square feet of paint. Robotic UHP is the production end of that same work, as demand for robotic services and a cleaner environment increases.

Safety, surface quality, less mess.

Safety

UHP water is a cutting tool. Training, inspected equipment, and robotic production that keeps people out of the primary jetting zone are how we treat it that way.

Quality

The point of UHP is a cleaner substrate for recoating — chlorides out, no embedded grit, a known WJ standard. That is the surface we are paid to leave.

Environment

No abrasive cloud. Less residual risk to intakes and rotating equipment. A smaller waste stream than spent grit. Cleaner on the steel and on the site.
